There is a word that we need to become extremely familiar with if we are a follower of Jesus Christ: Service. This has to be one of my favorite concepts when it's clearly defined as advancing the cause of Christ among men. What an amazing concept to consider, especially for those of us that live in free societies. What do we do with this paradox of being a servant or slave, and yet have been given all the freedom in the world in which to live our life?
A Deeper Relationship

To be a Christian. To be "like" Christ. A disciple. A follower of Jesus. What does this all mean? It was a long time ago, in a career far, far away that the Lord spoke very clear to me. I was at an administrator's conference when He spoke the following phrase to me: "exist to serve". In searching scripture, God directed me to 1 John 2:6 which states, "The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked." Little did I know how important this would become to my personal faith in Jesus today.

Two things I've always tried to hold on to in my relationship with Jesus are these terms: Consistency and Constancy. First, let me say that I am in no way claiming to be an expert on this issue. I only speak to this because of my consistent and constant failure as a Christian. The reason these two words are near and dear to me is because I classify them as "road signs" as opposed to definitions of character. Let me explain what I mean.
